Exercise of the Week – Band Scapula/Rotator Cuff Packing

Nice way to get a full rotator cuff/scapula activation against load, which ties in nicely to the shoulder packing concepts and form variations in the strength/kettlebell world.  This version uses a band for fluid and variable resistance, allowing us to change angles and load quickly and smoothly. This applies to several shoulder and scapular problems.

Key form point is the straight elbow, otherwise can start to recruit too much long head biceps to help stabilize the glenohumeral joint, which can be a functional diagnostic for chronic anterior shoulder pain overload mechanisms.

Clinical Note – This ties into some interesting shoulder evaluation by Magerey Here and Here published in Manual Therapy in 2003, The Dynamic Relocation Test.
