Great article from Brett Jones at Strongfirst on arm position during the getup, the transitional phases of the exercise have great value, and having a correct arm placement as you roll onto the elbow sets up the exercise for success.  Otherwise improper positioning can undermine the base and put your joints in sub-optimal positions, creating pain, making the movement awkward or preventing a good transition to the next steps and breakouts.
